Turks pray for victory in Syria’s Idlib
Worshippers gathered at mosques around Turkey on Monday to pray for the Turkish army’s victory in its clash with Syrian government forces in Syria’s northwestern Idlib province, the Turkish state-run Anadolu news agency reported.
Directorate of Religious Affairs (Diyanet) President Ali Erbaş led the prayers at the Hacı Bayram Mosque in Ankara, reading the 48th Surah of the Koran, al-Fath (Victory) before praying for the troops involved in the operation in Idlib, dubbed Spring Shield, and for the dozens of Turkish soldiers killed in the attack last week that triggered Turkey’s military response.
Top government officials joined the service in Ankara, including Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu, Justice Minister Abdulhamit Gül and Speaker of Parliament Mustafa Şentop.
The Diyanet organised similar services in mosques around Turkey and in northern Cyprus, Anadolu said.
