Turkish defence minister slams Greek 'provocations' in Aegean sea

Turkish Defence Minister Hulusi Akar said on Sunday Ankara was trying to react calmly to what he said provocation by Greece in the Aegean Sea, Cumhuriyet reported.

“Despite all our attempts, understanding and patience for good neighbourly relations, it is not possible to explain the harassment in the Aegean in recent days,” Cumhuriyet quoted Akar saying.

“We have put every effort to solve the issues via dialogue and mutual understanding, and we will continue to do the same,” Akar said.

The tensions in the Aegean have been high since last year over issues like maritime borders, airspace violations, and the Cypriot state’s attempts to explore and exploit hydrocarbon reserves in the eastern Mediterranean.
