Six Turkish parliamentarians test positive for COVID-19

Six more Turkish lawmakers tested positive for the COVID-19 coronavirus, Diken reported on Tuesday.

The parliamentarians were tested in an Ankara hospital and have been quarantined. Diken did not name the infected lawmakers.

A total of 43 COVID-19 cases have now been confirmed among deputies and workers at the parliament.

Diken said Emin Akbaşoğlu, Deputy Chairman of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), is still receiving treatment for COVID-19 in intensive care.

The AKP deputy had tested positive for coronavirus on June 30.

Meanwhile, Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca announced new nationwide COVID-19 figures on Tuesday evening, with 963 new cases and 15 people losing their lives in the previous 24 hours.

There are 1,280 COVID-19 patients in the country’s intensive care units, and 403 of them are intubated.
