Kurdish politician Demirtaş’s family injured on way to prison visit
Kurdish politician Selahattin Demirtaş’s family members were lightly injured on Friday after a traffic accident that took place while they were going to Edirne prison in northwest Turkey to visit him, Diken news site reported.
The accident happened on the highway in the northwestern province of Tekirdağ, Diken said. Demirtaş’s family were travelling in a minibus with other people going to visit Demirtaş, it said.
Demirtaş’s wife, mother, father, sister and another passenger were lightly injured when the minibus hit the highway barriers after a tyre burst.
The former co-chair of the mainly Kurdish People’s Democratic Party (HDP) faces multiple terrorism charges and has been jailed since November 2016. He fainted in his cell last week because of chest tightness and difficulty in breathing, symptoms similar to a heart attack.
