Historical artefacts, early Byzantium avenue unearthed in Istanbul’s Kadıköy

Historical artefacts have been unearthed during a hotel construction in a central neighbourhood of Istanbul’s Kadıköy district, Diken news site reported on Saturday.

According to experts, the artefacts date back to 2,000 years.

The construction of the 21-storey hotel continued under the supervision of archeologists, after the artefacts were found

An almost 6-metre wide avenue, estimated to be built during the early Byzantium period, was also brought to surface as the construction progressed, along with marble pillars.

The regional directorate responsible of protecting cultural properties will decide on the future of the constructions after new discoveries, Diken said.
