Erdoğan ally nationalist party leader to resume duties after health scare

The leader of Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) will be resuming his duties as of Monday following health problems, which left him out of commission for more than two weeks, independent news site T24 reported on Saturday.

The 71-year-old leader of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) was hospitalised on Sept. 23 due to an upper respiratory infection, staying out of the public eye for more than two weeks.

The absence of the ally of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan from the opening ceremony of the Turkish Parliament on Oct. 1 and regular weekly MHP parliamentary group meeting sparked rumours about his ailing health and his ongoing alliance with the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP).

“Our Chairman, the esteemed Devlet Bahçeli suffered an upper respiratory tract infection, however, thankfully he has come to the end of his treatment,‘’ MHP Deputy chair Semih Yalçın announced on Twitter.
